Walter Barnes Passes

October 19, 2005 - Toronto

It is with great sadness that I learned of Walter Barnes passing last weekend. 

I considered Walter a very dear friend and a most valuable colleague.  The series of Canadian Brass  Quintet books he and I worked on together represent an extremely high point in our relationship--he continues to influence thousands and thousands of musicians through his insightful work.
 
It's daunting to think of all the hearts Walter touched as teacher, musician and mentor--a spirit like Walter's is rare--his influence will never end.  He will be missed and remembered.
