From the liner notes:
"Here is Canadian Brass at its best, well into the third decade
of its fantastic musical journey, happily continuing to take full
advantage of the rich sonority and amazing versatility of brass
instruments. These are rapidly changing times in the musical world,
where audiences are eager to embrace the Classics, Jazz (the 'new'
classical music) and more. Musical boundaries and categories continue
to blend and erode, while "crossing-over" into neighboring
musics is nearly obligatory amongst performing artists. After over
50 recordings, this CD is both a glimpse back and a vision forward,
using every opportunity to bridge styles and straddle musical eras."

Three
Nights with Canadian Brass DVD
Three live performances over three decades all
on one DVD!
Canadian Brass began its fantastic musical journey over 30
years ago. This DVD brings together three live concerts performed
in three different decades. The Brass combines great artistry
and great music with great audiences and it has always
done so with humour and disarming charm. It is live performance
that distinguishes Canadian Brass, and it is through live performance
that the Brass can be best understood. These three concerts
capture the many talents and facets of Canadian Brass.
Amazing Brass in Concert (2003) showcases the new millennium
manifestation of Canadian Brass, elevating the brass quintet
medium to new heights. Featuring the legendary music that made
Canadian Brass famous from Bachs Toccata &
Fugue in d minor to Peter Schickeles Hornsmoke, (A Horse
Opera in One Act) with a lot of Luther Henderson jazz thrown
in this concert touches every emotion.
On Stage at Wolf Trap (1990) shows the Classic Canadian
Brass. Becoming known as the Fab Five in the
90s, this group concertized together for an unprecedented
two thousand performances! At Wolf Trap they create an astounding
musical event spotlighting Metropolitan Opera star Judith Blegen
as guest.
Live from the Peach Tree Theatre, Atlanta (1985) exhibits the
Brass infamous Tribute to the Ballet ballet music
performed as it should be danced! This is the music that
spawned their trademark white running shoes and earned them
the moniker Marx Brothers of Brass by the New York
Times.

Inside
Brass DVD
New Canadian Brass DVD Compiles 3 educational programmes
in a single source . . .
Music Education has always been a Canadian Brass top priority.
The group started by performing 200 in-school concerts yearly,
several of the artists in the group come from families of music
teachers, and all of them got their own starts in public school
music programmes. Canadian Brass was awarded the first annual
FAME award by MENC (Music Educators National Conference) for
its contributions to music education. This DVD compiles three
Canadian Brass educational programmes in a single source.
Strings, Winds and All That Brass
Motivational message: "Participate and Don't Give Up"
This is about kids talking to kids and their message is clear:
music matters. This video features numerous school-age musicians
telling their tales - why they chose to participate in their
schools music programmes, what they really enjoy about
this involvement and what they expect to gain from the experience.
Wynton Marsalis makes a magical cameo appearance to give the
immortal works of encouragement to a trumpet-playing seventh
grade fan: "Keep on practicing!"
Master Class
Hands-on guidance to performance improvement
Canadian Brass, the master teachers. Collectively the brass
are inheritors of the finest American tradition of brass playing,
having attended Arnold Jacobs seminars and lessons, Eastman
School, New England Conservatory, The Juilliard, SUC, U of Missouri,
Fontainebleau, Tanglewood, Interlochen, and they are willing
to share what they have learned with you on this video. Fundamentals
of wind playing are thoroughly ventilated in Master Class. Divided
into three main topics, players can explore the fundamentals
of wind playing:
1. Posture & Breathing
2. Tonguing & Embouchure
3. Music Performance & Playing with an Ensemble
Brass Spectacular
On camera meeting of musical greatness
Canadian Brass is joined by two of the great names in brass,
New York Philharmonic & Boston Symphony Orchestra. This
is brass music at its zenith. All of the music is important
listening in its own right - Beethoven, Gabrieli, Monteverdi,
and Sousa - and it all becomes supercharged with beauty, wit,
and powerful musical drama in this remarkable concert conducted
by their friend maestro Georg Tintner.
