In 1974 the Canadian Brass was invited by then-Director David Leighton
to establish a brass summer course. They set up a programme
that became the model for other seminars and courses around the
world. For the next ten years they brought five brass quintets
to the mountains for six weeks, where they developed skills not
only in the art of brass playing, but performance as outreach.
Their impact on the development of Canadian arts as well as brass
performance around the world has been commemorated by the artist
John Nugent. You see Chuck and his family examining the sculpture
'Canadian Brass', which is prominently displayed on the lawn in
front of the Theatre right at the main entrance to the Banff Centre!
